Grandma Maggie’s place was established in the early ’50s. She was the first black business owner in Friars Point Ms. from the 1950s – 1975.

Grandma Maggie was a visionary she recognized the need for black communal service to socialize and entertain.  She provided home-cooked meals three times a day.

This became the central location where town folk and folk from other communities come by to enjoy a great meal, laughter and have good conversations. Grandma Maggie’s stellar cooking was a hit for drawing large crowds.

Grandma Maggie retired in 1975 and passed the business down to her son, my uncle Sonny from 1975-1985. My Uncle carried out my Grandma’s legacy until his untimely passing.

From 1985-1997 my Mom and Dad CD who is Maggie’s oldest son and wife Beulah took over the business. My parent provided the same southern level of hospitable service that Grandma Maggie provided. Mom added a larger menu with specialty orders and drew an even larger crowd.

My parent then passed the business down to my oldest brother who had recently retired and moved back home. My brother Willie kept the family business going from 1997 – 2019.

In 2019 I (Carl) retired and decided to move back home and mybrother decided to pass the family business down to me right before the pandemic hit.

My envision was to build a bigger and better place, so I removed the old structure and rebuilt a new one to accommodate our town and community. My family will offer the same hospitality to our towns’ folk and surrounding communities that my grandma Maggie started.

I am looking forward once again to reopening our doors of “The Main Event Bar and Grill”, where you can enjoy a good home-cooked meal, loads of entertainment, laughter, and socializing.  

I just want to keep my grandmother’s legacy going for generations and generations to come!
